Protocol for Selah House Counseling Internships, Q&A:

Thank you for your interest in a counseling internship at Selah House.  The following, hopefully, can answer some of the most frequently asked questions.  However, if you have further questions regarding the application process for a counseling internship at Selah House, please direct those questions to Todd Davis, Family Therapist and Internship Site Supervisor.  He can be reached by phone at 765.641.0022 or by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. How many counseling interns do you have at Selah House at any one time?
We only have one counseling intern in the house at a time.

Can I extend my internship past a semester?
We realize that many interns desire to complete both their 300 and 600 hour internships in one location.  As an intern, you may accumulate as many hours as you like during one semester, however, interns may only complete a one semester internship at Selah House (Spring, Summer, or Fall).

Can I complete a practicum class?
No.  Most practicum classes are 100 hours.  An intern must be willing to offer a minimum of 300 hours during their semester internship to be considered.

Can I complete an undergraduate counseling internship at Selah House?
No.  Selah House will only consider graduate interns (Master’s or Doctorate Degrees) completing internship coursework.  The supervising university must be accredited, meaning that upon their school’s graduation, they will have completed all of their coursework necessary towards licensure in their state.

Do you consider counseling internships from on-line universities?
At this time, we do not.  We feel that in class face-to-face coursework and dialogue is necessary in the field of counseling for the training of the top quality interns that we are searching for at Selah House.  A student may have taken an on-line course, however, the majority of their hours must be in-class hours.

When are the dates for Spring, Summer, and Fall internships?
All internship hours must be completed between the beginning and ending dates of their awarded internship:
     • Spring Internship: Jan. 1 – the third Friday in May
     • Summer Internship: The Monday following the third Friday in May – the fourth Friday in August
     • Fall Internship: The Monday following the fourth Friday in August – Dec. 31

What is needed to be submitted for the application process?
Potential counseling internship candidates must submit a cover letter stating the specific semester an internship is sought.  In addition, candidates must also submit a resume.  Submitting a vita is optional.  These documents can be mailed to:  Selah House, Attn: Todd Davis, 2541 N. Shore Blvd., Anderson, IN  46011, or faxed to: Todd Davis, 765.641.0066, or e-mailed to: Todd Davis at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  There is no preferred method.

When are applications accepted and final decisions made for counseling internships?

     • For Spring Internships: Applications will be accepted up to Oct. 1.  Interviews will be set up and completed between Sept 1 and two days prior to a final decision.  A final decision will be made by the third Friday in October.

     • For Summer Internships: Applications will be accepted up to March 1.  Interviews will be set up and completed between February 1 and two days prior to a final decision.  A final decision will be made by the third Friday in March.

     • For Fall Internships: Applications will be accepted up to May 1.  Interviews will be set up and completed between April 1 and two days prior to a final decision.  A final decision will be made by the third Friday in May.

Will you consider interns that are in recovery from an eating disorder?
Yes.  However, interns must be in the maintenance stage of recovery for at least the past two years.  Potential interns must inform Selah House during the application/interview process of any recovery process that they are in or have been in that would or could affect their interactions with our clients.

Are all candidates interviewed and who would I be interviewed by?
Not all candidates are interviewed.  All intern candidates asked to an interview must complete an interview with Todd Davis, our Selah House Internship Site Supervisor and a second interview with Misty Rees, our Program Director.  We do attempt, but do not guarantee, to contact all candidates that are no longer being considered for an internship.

If accepted for an internship position, what is required prior to beginning my internship?
All interns must sign a release for Selah House to complete a background check, including one’s driving record (because interns may be required to drive a Selah House vehicle).  All interns must submit to a drug test.  In addition, all interns must complete training given by Shane Rees, Director of Labor and Compliance, and Misty Rees, our Program Director.
