There is a recent article on Psychology Today online discussing issues around athletes with eating disorders. It is important to be aware that some sports do seem to have higher risk factors for the development of eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia. Here is an excerpt from the article: "A variety of factors put an athlete at risk for developing an eating disorder, including: outside pressure to keep up athletic abilities, maintaining a healthy weight for optimal performance, and the type of sport (individual vs. team, and whether or not it focuses on physical appearance). The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) lists some risk factors here." Click here to open an window to the article.
